Captain James Feldman of the Salina Police Department issued a warning regarding a recent phone scam reported by Todd Heitschmidt of court services. Scammers are spoofing the Sheriff’s Department's phone number (785-826-6500), asking for $1500. Captain Feldman emphasized that government or court agencies do not solicit money over the phone, especially in the form of gift cards. He urged readers to contact law enforcement if they encounter suspicious calls, emphasizing the importance of not sending any money.

Be aware of phone calls for failure to report to Jury Duty.
Recently, several individuals have received calls from a person posing to be from local law enforcement and saying the individual has failed to show for jury duty and a warrant for their arrest has been issued. The caller then attempts to advise the individual to send them money to post a bond to avoid arrest. The caller then advises a zoom hearing would be scheduled, and the individual would be contacted with a court date and time and zoom information once the money has been received.
This is a scam, so if you are receiving a call regarding missing jury duty and a warrant has been issued for your arrest, you can call local law enforcement or you can call Saline County District Court at 785-309-5874.
