On July 15 at 7:56 pm, an officer attempted to stop a black 1984 GMC Suburban in the 100 block of South 10th Street due to a mismatched license plate. The driver, however, did not comply and led police on a 25-minute chase around town, reaching speeds up to 63 mph.
During the pursuit, police received a 911 call from a passenger in the vehicle, who pleaded for the driver to stop. The chase ended in the 400 block of North 5th Street, where the driver, identified as 33-year-old Shane McMillin of Salina, was apprehended.
Officers discovered a white baggie, believed to contain methamphetamine, that had been thrown from the vehicle during the chase. The baggie was found on the 700 block of North 4th Street.
McMillin faces multiple charges including felony fleeing and eluding, interference, kidnapping, distribution of methamphetamine, no drug tax stamp, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, multiple traffic infractions, no insurance, and improper tag usage.
