Police Investigate Lottery Scam at Rod's 2

Captain Miller reports that on June 6, Salina police responded to a scam at Rod's 2, located at 1339 N Ninth Street. The clerk reported that three males purchased lottery tickets using a presumably faulty credit card. They attempted another transaction for $900, which was declined. After buying cigars, the men left the store. The clerk, suspecting fraud, contacted the Kansas Lottery, which confirmed awareness of an ongoing scam and placed a hold on the purchased tickets.

Police discovered that the men attempted to redeem the tickets at Walmart, but the hold prevented the transaction. The suspects had been at Walmart the previous day cashing tickets traced back to an Abilene store. The scam involves a white Hyundai Tucson leased from Ohio. Authorities have suspect video footage and vehicle information and are tracking the vehicle through license plate readers. The investigation is ongoing.
