The Salina Police Department is awaiting final autopsy results in the death of a 7-week-old infant that occurred in late July, with the investigation currently suspended pending medical examiner findings.
The infant died around July 28th under circumstances that prompted a police investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
According to police briefing materials, the Kansas City medical examiner has completed the physical autopsy but investigators are waiting for the final forensic pathologist report to determine both the cause and manner of death.
"The cause of death is unclear, making the case difficult to proceed," police stated in their briefing. Officials emphasized their heavy reliance on medical professionals to determine what occurred and noted that the timeline for the final report remains uncertain, though results are expected "fairly soon."
The investigation has been placed on hold until the medical examiner releases their conclusions. Police indicated that once autopsy results are finalized, there will be an official public release, and further investigative steps will depend entirely on those medical findings.
