Salina, KS – A 43-year-old man was arrested following a violent confrontation during a football game at Salina Central Stadium on Friday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when Jonathan Cordova, of Mulvane, Kansas, was asked to leave the stadium due to disruptive behavior in the stands.
Initially, Cordova agreed to exit the premises but later refused, leading to a physical altercation with a school resource officer and a private security guard. According to authorities, Cordova struck the officer multiple times in the head and punched the 63-year-old security guard, who was from Salina.
Both the officer and the guard attempted to subdue Cordova with tasers, but he managed to remove the prongs. It took a second deployment of the taser by the officer to finally subdue Cordova and place him under arrest.
Cordova was taken into custody on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a security guard, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct. While alcohol was suspected to be a factor in the incident, no blood alcohol test was conducted as Cordova was not operating a vehicle.
Cordova was booked into the Saline County Jail following the incident. Both the officer and the security guard sustained injuries during the altercation. The officer received a contusion above her left eye.
The investigation remains ongoing.
