On September 3rd, around 4:30 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported at the Salina Police Department. Two custodial workers for the city had entered the police station at approximately 1:30 a.m. and left about an hour later. Upon returning to their vehicle, a 34-year-old female from Salina discovered that her vehicle, which was parked in front, had been entered without forced entry.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified Christopher McCarter, a 48-year-old male, as the suspect. McCarter, who had been seen in the lobby earlier, was observed on video entering the vehicle and stealing $7 in cash and a large package of Hormel Pepperoni, with a total value of $26.99.
Officers later located McCarter in the 100 block of N Santa Fe, where they found an empty package of Hormel Pepperoni and some cash. McCarter was taken into custody and booked for theft of property/services valued at less than $1,500.
