Pedestrian Struck on Interstate in Early Morning Accident

On Thursday, August 17, at 12:20 am, an injury accident occurred on Interstate 135. The driver of a semi-truck from LaCrosse, Kansas, made call to authorities. The trucker reported that he was traveling southbound on Interstate 135 near the McReynolds overpass when he had a terrifying encounter. He believed that his vehicle had collided with a pedestrian on foot. Despite his efforts to locate the individual, the driver was unable to find any trace of them.

Deputies responded and found a man identified as Anthony Shirley, 24 years old and a resident of Salina, in a nearby ditch. EMS arrived on the scene and transported Mr. Shirley to SRHC in serious condition. Recent unverified accounts suggest that he may have been subsequently transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS later in the morning.

KHP also responded, and conducted an inspection on the semi and interviewed driver, to which everything checked out. The victim was wearing drab colors, and there were no overhead lights on this portion of the Interstate. It's believed that the victim was running from one ditch to the other ditch, however it's unknown what he was doing out there.
