Betty Kaye Atkinson

Betty Kaye Atkinson, age 79, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many passed away on August 29, 2025. Born on March 26, 1946, in Hutchinson, Kansas, raised on a farm in Plevna, Kansas, Betty touched the lives of countless students, community members, and friends with her gift for baking.

As the Food Director for USD 307, Betty had a passion for feeding her community and her students. She left a legacy in her famous bierocks and cinnamon rolls. The smell of her baking permeated the school hallways, while students hovered to steal and extra sampling.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband David Atkinson, daughter Meleia Atkinson, her parents J. Melvin and Ester Brown, and her sister Cheryl Buck. Betty is survived by her three daughters Madonna Anglin, Melissa Ingram, and Marcy Scheck, her six grandchildren and her nine siblings.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the Bavaria Cemetery.


James Herman “Jim” Rohloff

James Herman “Jim” Rohloff, Sr., 81, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Jim was born in Woodbine, Kansas, on November 11, 1943, to Nancy Valentine (Hird) and Wilbert Henry Rohloff. After high school, he served his country as an infantryman in the United States Army. Following his military service, Jim spent most of his working life as a dedicated truck driver, traveling the roads with pride and purpose.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed fishing and visiting the casino. He was known for always giving a helping hand.

Jim is survived by his life partner, Marie Collins; two sons, Joey "Joe" Rohloff (Susie) and Jeffrey Rohloff; and two brothers, Jerry Rohloff (Dixie) and Gary Rohloff. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward with love.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jimmy Jr.; and his sister, Carol Clements.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 500 S. Ohio St. in Salina, Kansas.
