Dorothy Ellen Spellman
Dorothy Ellen Spellman, 92, Salina, died Tuesday, September 10, 2024. She was born July 21, 1932, near Hedville, Kansas to Crawford and Margaret (Kern) McDaniel. Dorothy was a graduate of Bavaria High School in May of 1950 and two months later, married Alvin G. Spellman of Kipp, Kansas.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Dorothy was an active member in this Churches Boy Scout program as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. For many years, she was a piano teacher. She was passionate about her music and eventually was an organist at some of the churches here in Salina. She had many different jobs: She was a clerical worker at the Salina County Clerk Office, the office manager at the American Automobile Association (AAA). For a short time, helped with the Major Mission Fund of Northern Kansas. And, eventually, as a file clerk with the Mowery Clinic.
For over two decades, along with Alvin, she volunteered to call Bingo at McCall Manor. Over the years, she enjoyed crafts, cake decorating for birthdays and weddings, baking, and was an excellent seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, brother George McDaniel, sister Sarah Holmes, sister Mary Etta Rowson and son Leslie E. Spellman. Surviving is her son Lyle Spellman and wife Kathleen of Wichita. Leslieβs wife Elaine Spellman. Grandson Eugene Spellman (Hoa) of Haysville. Granddaughter Megan Kraus (Jeremy) of Topeka. Great grandchildren, Angela, Tristan, Brigham and Reagan.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18th at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina. The burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19th at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina (far south end). Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church 308 S. 8th St, Salina. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Scouting Program.
