Ruth Zier

Ruth Zier, 95, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Bethany Home, Lindsborg.

Ruth was born on April 2, 1929, in Lincoln County, Kansas, to Ben and Olga Tatkenhorst. She graduated from Lincoln High School. She married Virgil Zier on May 30, 1948. Virgil and Ruth farmed in Lincoln County. Ruth also was employed as a clerk at the Lincoln County Courthouse and later at the Salina Journal. She continued to live in Lincoln County after Virgilโ€™s death in 1974 until moving to Salina in 1983. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lincoln, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina.

Ruth is survived by her children: Kristin (Kenneth) Stewart of Hunter, Kansas; Gwen (Dean Leon) Hatzenbuehler of Dorrance, Kansas; Mark (Charyl) Zier of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; Kim (Nancy) Zier of Manhattan, Kansas; Lillian (Brad) Martell of Bettendorf, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Daysha (Brad) Sutton of Assaria, Kansas; Todd (Kerry) Hatzenbuehler of Wichita, Kansas; Kenda (Phil) Steffensmeier of Iowa City, Iowa; Krisha Stewart of Kansas City, Missouri; Mica Zier of Fairway, Kansas; Clint (Katie) Zier of Bucyrus, Kansas; Ann Zier of Manhattan, Kansas; Ben Zier of Manhattan, Kansas; Nate Martell of Fort Worth, Texas; Bria Martell of Bettendorf, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren: Treyton Sutton, Savannah Sutton, Grant Hatzenbuehler, Ethan Hatzenbuehler, Kellen Zier and Carter Zier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Zier, in 1974; and an infant son, Robert, in 1952.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S. Ninth, Salina, Kansas. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lincoln, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at 137 N. Eighth St., Salina.

Memorials may be made to the cemetery fund of St. John Lutheran Church, Lincoln, Kansas, or to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, Kansas.


Lisa Marie Laue

Lisa Marie Laue, 67, of Assaria, KS, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2025. Lisa was born in Kansas City, KS on December 31, 1957, to Kent and Josephine (Buckingham) Coolidge.

Lisa attended Salina South High School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Salina, KS. She was a long-time employee of the Salina Journal and most recently a manager at Kwik Shop.

Lisa lived life to the fullest, embracing every opportunity with joy, warmth, and a deep love for those around her. She was a woman of boundless energy, an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Lisa is survived by her partner, Robert Lohmeyer; her son, Joshua, and his wife, Miranda Laue; her daughter, Krista, and her spouse, Julia (Jaxon) Haywood; her five grandchildren, Logan, Dylan, Malachi, Moriah, and Josiah; her great-grandson, Nathaniel; and her brothers, William and John Coolidge. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Kent and Josephine Coolidge. Her family was her greatest pride, and she was a constant source of love, strength, and inspiration to them all.

A celebration of Lisaโ€™s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Lisaโ€™s memory to the American Cancer Society or Gentiva Hospice.
