Charlene Nelson

On Sunday, August 18th, 2024, Charlene Nelson, our loving mother, passed away at the age of 96. She will be sorely missed, for everyone who knew her appreciated her kindness and joy.

Charlene was born October 20th, 1927 in Augusta, KS to Francis and Theodore Davis. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She was baptized June 28th, 1936 and confirmed June 7, 1942. Charlene attended St. John's college in Winfield after going to high school in Wichita. Charlene married Charles Nelson November 9th, 1946; they enjoyed 62 very happy years together.

Charlene is survived by her 3 children: Janice Nelson (Salina), Charles G. Nelson (Mineola, Texas) and Julie Cole and her husband Michael (Beverly). Eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

At mom's request, she would appreciate memorials to be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, KS. She also wanted everyone at Lincoln Park Manor to know how much she appreciated everything you did for her. Thank you for everyone's kindness and love shown to mom throughout her many years. Christ's peace to all. 

Graveside services will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Mission Hill Cemetery, Smolan, Kansas.

Larry Dwayne Barham

Larry Dwayne Barham, 73, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 18th, 2024.

Larry was born in Rector, Arkansas on September 21, 1950, a son of Elvia (Davis) Risner and Thomas Allen Barham.

He was a welder for most of his life and retired from Russell Stover Chocolates, working in maintenance.  

When he was younger, he wanted to be a professional baseball player. He was also very passionate about fishing.

Survivors include three daughters, Sonya Burgess, of Escondido, California, Tonya Johnson (Christopher), of Salina, Kansas, Alexianna Barham, of Abilene, Kansas; son, Wayne Allen Barham (Reta Hamilton), of Salina, Kansas; his sister, Louisa Johnson (Jimmy), of Killen, Alabama; and best friend of 60 years, James "Jimmy" Bush (Myvan).

He is also survived by grandchildren, Allen Barham, Alisa Cole, Angelica Hinklin, Cevon Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Daenara Burgess, Angelina Burgess, Rachel Burgess, Tonya Burgess, Christopher Burgess; and great grandchildren, Alyssa Barham, De'trique Barham, Olivia Cole, Wyatt Cole, and Jasper Barham. As well as his ex-wives and the mothers of his children, Virginia Morris Hindman and Billie Jo Barham Watkins plus a multitude of extended family.

Larry played a major role in the lives of his 1st wife's siblings, Danny Morris, Charles Morris (Robin), Donna Johnson, Renia McMillin, Mickey Morris (Denna), Rosie Moore, and Carolyn Burns (Jerry).

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Milhoan.

A gathering will take place at Tonya's house with a date to be determined.
