Larry Wade Peppers

Larry Wade Peppers, 80, entered into eternal peace on August 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.

Larry was born on August 19, 1943 in Granite City, IL to parents Thomas Wade and Elta Oletta Sykes Peppers. Larry graduated from Granite City High School and earned an associates degree from Hutchinson Community College.

He married Judy Nelson on June 9,1963. They had 4 children together before she passed away on August 6,1993.

Larry served in the Air Force as an A1C Missile Facilities Technician in the mid -1960s. 

He later began working at Sears, and stayed for 43 years as a sales associate and manager, then moved to Menards before his retirement.

Larry enjoyed coaching his sons Babe Ruth baseball teams, watching KU basketball, fishing, casinos, and loved listening to classic country music.

He married Laura Baumberger in September of 1994. Larry and Laura raised several puppies, including his beloved Mandy. They liked to play bingo and dine at local area restaurants.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Judy); two sisters (Linda and Mary).

Larry is survived by Wife: Laura Jane Peppers (Ewing); Children: Richard Peppers and spouse Mitzi, Rob Peppers, Barbara Schulze and spouse Randy, Lyndon Peppers and spouse Layla; Others: Vonnie Peppers (Sister), Ashley Melugin (Granddaughter) and spouse Alex, Amber Lanning (Granddaughter) and spouse Matt, Amber Lanning (Granddaughter) and spouse Matt, Bryce Peppers (Grandson), Josh Macey (Grandson), Payton Nguyen (Granddaughter) and spouse Devin Huehl, Alli Schulze (Granddaughter), Lexy Appel (Granddaughter) and spouse Tyler, Logan Peppers (Grandson) and spouse Alex, Alyssa Peppers (Granddaughter), Rod Baumberger (Step-Son), Mike Baumberger (Step-Son), 5 Great-Grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, 10:30 AM at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel in Salina, KS, with Pastor Doug Hamilton officiating. Inurnment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, KS. Memorials may be made to Salina Animal Shelter; 329 N. 2nd Str., Salina, KS 67401 or the Northeast Parkinson's Association; P.O. Lyla "Pat" Patricia Brooks

Lyla "Pat" Patricia Brooks, 74, passed away on August 03, 2024 at her home in Solomon, KS.

Lyla was born on August 23, 1949 in Scott City, KS to parents Leonard Henry and Leta Mae (Eastham) Brooks. 

She loved her job at the library and loved working with the community and especially the children. She participated in many volunteer events encouraging people to read. She loved volunteering and often volunteered at events for the Smokey Hill Museum; one example would be the Salina Street Fair. She was also a volunteer for the North Salina Community Development project and Lakewood Discovery Center events.

Pat didn’t have the opportunity to go to college until later in life but she loved it and would have made a lifetime career out of it if she could. She attended Kansas State University and received two Masters degrees, one in Environmental Studies and another in Women's Studies. She was passionate about environmental issues, social injustice and human rights. She was very knowledgeable and wrote many essays on these issues. She was an avid reader and spent a large part of most days reading and learning new things. 

She was very committed in the Baha'i faith community. She loved her cat Nellie and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved gardening.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; Sisters: Luella Betzold and Linda Brooks; Brothers: Leonard Brooks, Leland Brooks and Larry Brooks. 

Lyla is survived by; Daughters: Cassie Brooks and spouse Jerome Schneider, Heidi Phillips and Bonnie Love Sons: Mark Reeves and John Phillips; Sisters: Lana Jantz and Lenora Haynes; Brother: Lynn Brooks; 8 Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12, 2024, 11:00 AM at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel in Salina, KS, with Pastor Doug Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Heart Land Prairie Cemetery in New Cambria, KS. 


Michael Allen Burt

After a courageous battle with cancer, Michael Allen Burt, age 60 departed this life on July 31st with grace. In his final days, his devoted family and caregivers cared for and supported him. Michael was born to Donald Clifford Burt, Sr. and Myrna Jean, “Jeannie” (Walmsley) Burt in Abilene, Kansas on July 5, 1964.

Mike exemplified a life well-lived by cherishing simple pleasures, such as engaging in conversations with friends and family and spending his days riding his chopper bike while enjoying rock and roll music in the evenings. He found joy in watching WWE alongside his children and took great satisfaction in working alongside his sister Chris and her husband John Graves with their upholstery business. Before that, Mike worked at Abilene Golf and Fitness, previously the Abilene Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald C. Burt, Jr., and great-nephew Garrit W. Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Brittany (Mike) Graham of Abilene; son, Allen Burt of Abilene; grandson, Asher Hulsey; four sisters, Donna (Barry) Bowers, Chris (John) Graves, Jacque (Steve) Foster all of Abilene, Melissa (Andy) Anderson of Salina; two brothers, Tim (Sharon) Burt of Abilene and Steve Burt of Salina; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

His final resting place will be in the Greenville Cemetery, North of Niles, KS on 250th Road. Graveside services will take place Saturday, September 14 at 10am, followed by a gathering for family and friends at Brown’s Memorial Park, 1643 Indy Road, Abilene, KS 67410 (weather permitting).
