Robert Carl Norton
Robert Carl Norton, 78, of Gypsum, Kansas, passed away Tuesday July 30. He was born on September 30, 1945, in Pasadena California, to Carlyle “Corky” A. Norton and Melva V. (Wheeler) Norton.
Robert was an avid lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed sharing stories by the campfire. The great outdoors was Robert’s playground, and the campground was his second home. His favorite outdoor activity was mowing, on his trusty lawn mower he could go anywhere while keeping the lawn neat. Whenever his lawn mower got stuck it was always someone else’s fault. Robert also loved classic cars, if there was a car show he was there. His favorite car was the model A. Robert also loved his family dearly. Spending time with his grandkids in the yard teaching them how to mow the lawn was his bread and butter.
In 1963 Robert joined the Navy and served in Vietnam. Robert was part of the crew of the USS Bagley FF 1069 where he traveled the open ocean and seeing the beauty of the world only strengthening his love for the outdoors. In Roberts time in the Navy he reached the rank of Command Maser Chief and after 23 years of dutiful service he retired. Later on Robert joined VFW and continued his service.
Robert is preceded by his parents Carlyle “Corky” A. Norton and Melva V. (Wheeler) Norton; Brother Charles E “Chuck” Norton; Sister Sue M. Norton; and Granddaughter Sydnie Norton; Grandparents Evan and Laura (Bolton) Norton, and Mr. Mrs. Charles Wheeler
Survivors include sister Carolyn A. Basye; Son Tony A. Norton; Daughters Tina A. Blundred, Tracy A. (Wayne) Rohleder; Grandchildren April Norton, Caitlyn Larson, Trinity Blundred, Tristan Blundred, Madison Norton, Kaile Black, Case Davis, Brayson Young, and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with family present from 6-8. Funeral Services will be Ryan Mortuary on August 2, at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenville Cemetery, 148 250th Rd, Solomon, KS 67480.
