National Chains Close for Thanksgiving, Highlighting the Value of Local Shopping

Salina, Kansas – Once again, major national retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Sam’s Club opted to remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, allowing employees to spend time with their families and pushing the start of the holiday shopping season to Black Friday. This trend places an even brighter spotlight on the importance of shopping local and supporting small businesses during the holidays.

In Salina, downtown retailers are preparing for a festive weekend, offering unique gifts, personalized service, and holiday cheer. Local shop owners are embracing the season with enthusiasm, creating an inviting atmosphere for shoppers looking for meaningful and distinctive holiday treasures.
