Mobile Home Destroyed in Fire Caused by Unattended Grill, One Person Injured

A mobile home in a neighborhood northwest of Salina was completely destroyed by a fire that originated from an unattended barbecue grill on Monday evening, according to fire officials.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on July 14 at 2625 North Winchester Road, near the Sundowner West area. The homeowners reported that they had been cooking on a grill in the backyard but left it unattended for approximately two minutes. Upon returning, they smelled burning and discovered the grill engulfed in flames, which quickly spread to the house.

Salina Fire Department District Three responded to the scene and arrived to find the mobile home fully involved in fire. All residents were able to evacuate safely before the firefighters' arrival.

One of the homeowners, Brian Bell, sustained first-degree burns to his forehead during the incident and was treated on-site by Salina EMS personnel. No other injuries were reported.

The mobile home has been declared a total loss, with the fire causing extensive damage that rendered the structure uninhabitable. Authorities emphasized the importance of monitoring outdoor cooking equipment to prevent similar occurrences.
