Police responded to a disturbance at the Hastings Inn Sunday evening, where they encountered two separate situations.
Officers were initially called to 217 S. Broadway at approximately 8:30 PM on January 19 regarding a disturbance between two 40-year-old motel residents. One resident reported being confronted about alleged past vehicle damage. During the confrontation, both parties accused each other of holding weapons, with one possibly being a handgun. Officers determined one subject had been holding a torch lighter. No charges were filed in this incident.
While officers were investigating the disturbance, another motel resident, identified as Ricky L. Hall, 61, began yelling and cursing at officers from the parking lot. Hall was not involved in the original call.
As an officer spoke with motel employees in the office, they heard loud banging from outside. Police report finding Hall striking a patrol car's hood with a logging chain. Hall complied when ordered to the ground at taser point and was taken into custody.
According to police, Hall said he damaged the vehicle because officers "did not pay enough attention to him." The patrol car sustained an estimated $4,000 in damage to its hood and windshield.
Hall was booked into the Saline County Jail on charges of felony damage to property.
