Logjam Removal Project Underway on Smoky Hill River

Logjam Removal Project Underway on Smoky Hill River

The process of removing the large logjam along the Smoky Hill River has officially begun. Diehl Enterprises, the contractor selected for the project, has placed fencing around the site and brought in heavy equipment, including an excavator.

“The project is moving forward with Diehl,” City Manager Jacob Wood told Salina311 on September 2. “They have put construction fence up around the site and there is an excavator onsite. I expect them to start working earnestly this week. I am not sure if the rain last night has held them up or not.”

The logjam has been a growing concern in recent months, drawing attention from both city officials and residents for its impact on river flow and flood control. Removal work is expected to improve water movement through the channel and reduce the risks of future flooding.
