Tom Fleming and Greg Stephens' documentary, Minersville, has been accepted into the popular Pikes Peak DocuFEST in Colorado Springs this weekend. It will be screened on October 4, in the 12:40 p.m. block, along with short films from across the country.
The Pikes Peak DocuFEST is a renowned short documentary film festival that proudly showcases outstanding submissions from talented filmmakers across Colorado and around the globe. Previously, Minersville was screened at the Great Plains Film Festival in Oklahoma City.
Salina Media Connection organized the Minersville documentary, which tells the true story of an important mining town with over 500 residents who worked in 28 lignite coal mines northeast of Concordia, starting in 1869. The town had two churches, a retail store, a labor union hall, a post office, a school, and a cemetery. The town had a significant impact on the region, but today, only a few scattered remnants of homes remain.
The film was funded in part by Humanities Kansas, the Republic, and Cloud County Foundations. For more information, check out their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/minersvilleks or visit the docuFEST got to https://www.facebook.com/PikesPeakdocuFEST/
