Some kids have trouble expressing their feelings. Whether it's fear, sadness, happiness, anger, or whatever color they're feeling.
These kids may have any reason clouding over to keep them from expressing how they feel. But, a local author set out to help both them and their caregivers.
LaNay Meier is a longtime resident of Salina, as well as a Registered Nurse and Addiction Counselor. She can now add an author to her list of accomplishments.
LaNay wrote The Feelings Umbrella with the belief that our culture needs better paths to self-care. One way to do that is to create our own βfeelings umbrella.' LaNay intends to help parents and educators teach young children to βgo withinβ and learn to truly love themselves and healthily speak their truth.
On Saturday, LaNay spoke to an audience at Ad Astra Books & Coffee House in Downtown Salina, introducing her book and taking questions after. She also signed copies of The Feelings Umbrella and posed for pictures.
When asked by a listener if this book would help older kids, LaNay responded with, "Everyone has feelings, no matter how old you are. I intended to write this book for people ages 3-7, but I believe older kids and even adults might be able to benefit from it as well."
Meier is reaching out to many teachers, health professionals, and community groups. If you would like to buy a copy of The Feelings Umbrella, you can purchase one at Ad Astra Books & Coffee House.
Ad Astra Books & Coffee House, located at 141 N Santa Fe in Downtown Salina, is a unique opportunity to not only grab your favorite cup of coffee, hot tea, or espresso but also relish in the atmosphere.
