On Wednesday, July 19, at 11:58 pm, an officer allegedly observed a silver 2010 Pontiac G6 in the 200 block of W Lincoln operating with no headlights or taillights.

A traffic stop was made. The officer made contact with both the passenger and driver of the vehicle. The male passenger was identified as the 32-year-old owner of the car. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Patrick Wahl of Salina, allegedly told the officer that he didn't have his drivers license, and verbally gave a name that was not his. The officer started doing some checking, and couldn't find any sort of KS license for the name given by the subject. On returning to the vehicle to confirm the information with the driver, the subject allegedly couldn't provide a social security number or his own age.

The officer became suspicious, and returned to the patrol car to do some research on who the subject might be. It was at this time that the driver allegedly ran from the vehicle to the 500 block of N 9th and went behind dumpsters. The officer caught up to the subject, and a taser was used to get him into custody.

It was discovered that Wahl had a failure to appear warrant from Salina Municipal Court, as well as a possible suspended drivers license. The officer on the scene was a K-9 handler, and Officer Tyrann completed a sniff of the area around the dumpsters. Suspected counterfeit fentanyl pills were allegedly found in a blue notebook belonging to Wahl. He was arrested on the following requested charges:

  • Possession of Opiate
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Interference with Law Enforcement
  • Driving while Suspended
  • No Headlamps
