KWU Women’s Volleyball Wins 11th Straight Match, Taking Out Doane in Four Sets

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball kept its winning streak alive on Wednesday night as the Coyotes dispatched the Doane University Tigers 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20 inside Mabee Arena on Coyotes for the Cure night.

Wesleyan got outstanding performances from the usual cast as Kylee Harris and Rylee Serpan led the way with 17 kills apiece. Freshman Gianna Adriaanse had 14 as well. Josie Deckinger had another double-double with 48 assists and 16 digs. Kelcey Hund had 28 digs and Kori Arnold added 15. Sarah Girard had six blocks and Harris was in on four as well.

It was 11-8 Coyotes in the first set when KWU scored four in a row to take a 15-8 lead on Kori Arnold's service ace. It was 17-10 before Doane scored three in a row to get within four. Back to back kills by Josie Deckinger got the Coyotes back on track.

Doane drew back within a point at 20-19, when the Coyotes scored three straight points, the last two on aces by Deckinger to make it 23-19. After a Doane point, Sarah Girard got a solo block to set up match point and Serpan ended it two points later.

Doane led 7-4 in the second set, and led again by a 14-11 count when Wesleyan got things going. A kill by Serpan sparked a 7-0 KWU run that made it 18-14. Doane got no closer than 21-17 the rest of the way as the Coyotes closed the set on a 4-0 run.

Wesleyan led 17-15 in the third set but A 3-0 Doane run gave the Tigers the lead. KWU scored two in a row to regain the lead, only to have the Tigers tie it at 19. KWU scored the next two, and had a 22-21 lead, before Doane scored the final four points to take the set.

The Coyotes led 8-7 in the fourth before a 4-0 spurt gave the Coyotes a 12-7 lead. KWU had a 16-14 lead when the Coyotes shot out to a 19-14 advantage, and later turned a 21-17 lead unto a 24-17 advantage on match point. Doane scored the next three before Sarah Girard closed it out with a kill.

Wesleyan is back in action on Friday night jumping back into KCAC action, hosting Avila at 6 p.m. inside Mabee Arena.
