KWU Women’s Volleyball Cruises to Sweep of Southwestern

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball remained atop the KCAC standings after a sweep of the Southwestern Moundbuilders inside Stewart Fieldhouse 25-16, 25-17, 25-17.
 
The victory boosts Wesleyan's record to 22-8 overall and 10-1 in the KCAC with two matches left in the regular season. The Coyotes are in a virtual 3-way tie for first place in the conference with Bethel at 11-1, and Oklahoma Wesleyan at 10-1.
 
The Coyotes controlled things from the outset on Saturday against the Moundbuilders. KWU led 6-5 in the first set but then rattled off six of the next seven points to take a 12-6 lead. Southwestern halved the Coyote lead, but KWU scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 22-11 lead after Rylee Serpan's service ace. A kill by Kylee Harris gave the Coyotes set point, but the Moundbuilders scored three points before Harris ended it with a kill.
 
Wesleyan trailed 5-4 in the second set and again 8-7 before getting things going. Three in a row gave the Coyotes a 10-8 lead and KWU pulled away scoring six straight points after leading 11-10 to make it 17-10 on a kill by Harris. Harris again claimed the set for the Coyotes with a kill to end it.
 
Southwestern took a 4-0 lead to start the third, but the Coyotes responded back with six straight as part of a 9-1 run to lead 9-5. Leading 10-8 the Coyotes again used a 6-1 run to take a 16-9 lead. After Southwestern scored  three points, the Coyotes scored five straight to take a 21-12 lead. Kyla Moore would close the match with a kill as KWU got the sweep.
 
The Coyotes again were efficient with the ball, hitting .308 as a team, while tallying 40 kills in the match. Harris led the way 1ith 16, while Gianna Adriaanse had nine and Serpan had eight. Deckinger had 32 assists in the match. Kelcey Hund had 12 digs and Rylee Serpan added 12. Harris and Serpan had three blocks each on the front line for the Coyotes.
