KWU Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Southwestern

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer played to a 1-1 draw with the Southwestern Moundbuilders in the regular season finale at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
 
The draw gives the Coyotes a 9-7-2 overall record and a 7-5-1 mark in the KCAC, and KWU will be the No. 6 seed in the KCAC tournament which begins this week with quarterfinals at campus sites.
 
The match was two teams playing evenly against one another.
 
The Coyotes broke through first in the 21st minute with a goal by Maleia Jackson that came off a corner kick set piece with assists to Grace Conner and Valeria Hernandez to make it happen as Jackson found space just outside the far post to score it.
 
Southwestern's goal came in the 58th minute on a direct kick following a KWU foul right at the top of the 18-yard box.
 
Wesleyan had two chances at goals to try to regain the lead, but a shot by Leoni Enzlmuller was stopped by Southwestern in the 59th minute and another by Valeria Hernandez in the 86th was also stopped. '
 
Conner and Enzlmuller had two shots each to lead the Coyotes, who outshot Southwestern 7-4.
 
KWU will play in the KCAC quarterfinal on Saturday, most likely at Saint Mary in Leavenworth. Brackets and pairings will be released by the KCAC office on Sunday.
