KWU Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short Against Langston 78-65

After Friday night's wild near win over a talent-laden Morningside team, the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball team faced an equally talented squad in Langston on Saturday on the final day of the Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Basketball Classic at Mabee Arena.
 
The Coyotes could come up short against the Lions 78-65.
 
Langston used a run during the first quarter to pull out to a 19-11 lead with 1:18 left in the quarter. The Coyotes battled back getting within three at the quarter buzzer on Alexis Dixon's score that made it 21-18 after a quarter.
 
Langston took a 31-19 lead with 6:50 left in the second, but the Coyotes pressed back, getting within five at 31-26 with 5:36 left on a pair of free throws by Angel Lee. Wesleyan trailed 39-32 at the half.
 
Wesleyan fell behind by as many as 16 in the third quarter at 59-43 with 2:36 left, but cut the difference to 62-51 at the end of the quarter on Hampton Williams' free throws.
 
The Coyotes cut the lead to eight at 71-63 on LaMyah Ricks' bucket with 2:37 left in the game, but got no closer as Langston scored the next seven to take a 78-63 lead before Williams' bucket with 24 seconds left made the final difference.
 
Ricks led the Coyotes with 13 points, while Odessa Ozuna had 11 and Williams scored 10 as KWU was 20 of 51 from the field for 39.2 percent. Ricks led the Coyotes with six rebounds.
 
Wesleyan returns to Mabee Arena on Wednesday, hosting Oklahoma City University at 6 p.m.
