KWU Softball swept by Friends

Kansas Wesleyan Softball dropped both ends of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Friends Falcons at Salina South High School. The Falcons won the opener 8-2 and the second game 7-0.

In the opener, Friends jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Becca Dunn connected on a 2-run double after Fallyn Marshall singled and Carolyn Dallimore walked.

The Falcons added three more in the third inning on a bases loaded hit by pitch to Vanessa Sigala, and then two more runs scored on Jayden Estabrook's sacrifice fly and a throwing error on the play.

Friends added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Dunn.

Wesleyan batters finally broke up a perfect game bid by Friends pitcher Riley Wertz in the bottom of the fourth when Trenity Miller connected on a single with two outs in the inning.

KWU got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Viviana Alaniz led off the inning with a walk and then scored on Cristabelle Alvarado's double. Eliza Flores then doubled to score pinch runner Lisandra Andrade.

Friends added two more in the top of the seventh.

Six different players had hits for the Coyotes. Miranda Fogal allowed eight runs, seven earned on 10 hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

In the second game, Friends took an early 1-0 lead in the first on Priscilla Mora's RBI single, but the Coyotes avoided more danger ending the inning with a double play.

The Falcons took advantage of two KWU errors in the second to score three runs and take a 4-0 lead.

One more came across for the Falcons in the third, and two more in the fourth to make it 7-0.

KWU got its first base runner of the game in the fourth on an error in center field, but the runner was erased by a fielder's choice and then a double play.

Finally in the fifth, KWU broke up the no-hit bid by Friends as Hailey Summers led off the inning with a double for the only Coyote hit in the second game.

Jewell Henry took the loss allowing seven runs, four earned on 11 hits with a walk and a strikeout. Caitlyn Collier closed out the game, not allowing a run on two hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
