The Kansas Wesleyan Flag Football team was not about to let what happened in the first meeting between the Coyotes and Baker happen again.
And it didn't.
The Coyotes put forth another masterful offensive and defensive performance on the way to a 32-13 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday night at Liston Stadium.
Reigning KCAC Offensive Player of the Week Chihiro Iwata was again on fire for the Coyotes, throwing for five touchdown passes, with four of them to Angel Roman.
Wesleyan's defense held Baker off the board until late in the third quarter and then another score for the Wildcats in clean-up time with five seconds left in the game.
Taking the ball first, the Coyotes scored with 9:02 left in the first as Iwata hit Roman from 10 yards out, but the PAT would fail.
The Coyote defense forced a Baker punt again found the end zone on the next drive. Iwata hit Roman again, this time from 6 yards out with 3:08 left, but the PAT 2 attempt failed and it was 12-0 Coyotes.
It was like a broken record for the Coyotes in the second with 8:27 left. Iwata found Roman again, this time from 10 yards out, but the PAT again was no good and it was 18-0 Coyotes.
Right before the half, Iwata found Na'Kiya Lloyd over the middle for a 3-yard touchdown pass as the Coyotes took a 24-0 lead into intermission.
Baker was the only team to score in the third quarter as Kayla Harrison scored on a 4-yard run with 29 seconds left in the quarter to make it 24-7 after the PAT.
Not about to let things go sour, the Coyotes marched right back down the field with Iwata finding Roman for the fourth time, this time from 11 yards and KWU converted the 2-point PAT to Tori Wlodarczyk to make it 32-7 with 7:13 left in the game.
Baker scored a late touchdown with five seconds left in the game on a 4-yard Sanija Waller to Destiny Martinez pass that made the final score 32-13.
Final statistics totals were not available on Wednesday night at press time.
The Coyotes are back in action Saturday, heading now to Hesston to play in a triangular with Graceland and Hesston. KWU plays Graceland at 11 a.m., and plays Hesston immediately following.
