KWU Flag Football Dominates Cottey 30-0
Kansas Wesleyan Flag Football followed their thrilling win over Ottawa with a dominating 30-0 win over the Cottey College Comets at Nevada High School.
The Coyotes scored twice in the first quarter as Chihiro Iwata hit Jazmine Whitfield on a 24-yard pass with 8:21 left, capping KWU's drive to start the game.
After stopping Cottey, the Coyotes were at it again, this time Iwata again finding Whitfield for a 3-yard pass play with 3:34 left in the quarter. The scoring play was set up by a long catch and run by Angel Roman.
KWU added a score in the second as Iwata hit Roman for a 17-yard scoring play with nine minutes left in the half.
Cottey then tried to control possession by holding the ball, but turned it over and the Coyotes nearly scored as time expired in the half, but the receiver in the end zone was ruled out of bounds.
No one scored in the third quarter, but the Coyotes added two more in the fourth.
Iwata hit Tori Wlodarczyk for a 15-yard scoring play with 8:54 left in the game. Wlodarczyk caught the ball and sprinted around two Cottey defenders who ended up blocking each other off the play and Wlodarczyk waltzed into the end zone.
The Coyotes capped the scoring with 1:11 left in the game as Ansdiane Rabano scored on a 17-yard run on a jet sweep, eluding a couple defenders down the sideline and diving into the end zone for the score.
