The Salina Planning Commission unanimously re-elected Karla Waters as chairperson during its annual business meeting held on September 16, 2025.
Waters, who has served one term as chair, was nominated for a second term by Commissioner Mikesell and received a second from Commissioner VanCoevern. The commission voted 6-0 to approve her continuation in the leadership role.
According to information presented at the meeting, Waters was eligible to serve another term as chair under the commission's rules. The annual business meeting, typically held in September, is when the planning commission conducts elections for leadership positions and makes nominations for representatives to other city boards.
In the same meeting, Commissioner Chad Farber was also re-elected to serve another term as vice chair by a unanimous vote.
The planning commission, which currently has eight members out of a full complement of nine, also selected representatives to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Heritage Commission. Waters was additionally nominated to represent the planning commission on the Heritage Commission.
The recommendations for board appointments will be forwarded to the Salina City Commission for formal approval by resolution.
The next planning commission meeting is scheduled for October, with at least one application already confirmed for consideration.
