Kansas Crop Progress & Condition Report - July 23

For the week ending July 21, 2024, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 9% very short, 24% short, 63% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 9% very short, 26% short, 62% adequate, and 3% surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 10% poor, 28% fair, 44% good, and 13% excellent. Corn silking was 76%, ahead of 64% last year and 62% for the five-year average. Dough was 30%, ahead of 21% last year and 19% average.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 26% fair, 55% good, and 13% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 51%, near 55% last year and 48% average. Setting pods was 16%, behind 22% last year, but near 15% average.

Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 35% fair, 46% good, and 8% excellent. Sorghum headed was 18%, equal to last year, and near 14% average. Coloring was 4%, near 5% last year and 2% average.

Cotton condition rated 0% very poor, 8% poor, 27% fair, 45% good, and 20% excellent. Cotton squaring was 86%, near 83% last year, and ahead of 78% average. Setting bolls was 51%, well ahead of 29% last year and 20% average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 32% fair, 44% good, and 8% excellent.
