For the week ending August 18, 2024, there were
5.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 35% short, 51% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 42% short, 44% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 9% very poor, 16% poor, 30% fair, 34% good, and 11% excellent. Corn dough was 88%, ahead of 77% last year and 76% for the five-year average. Dented was 48%, ahead of 41% last year and 39% average. Mature was 7%, near 5% both last year and average.

Soybean condition rated 3% very poor, 10% poor, 28% fair, 48% good, and 11% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 90%, near 93% last year and 89% average. Setting pods was 67%, behind 73% last year, and equal to average.

Sorghum condition rated 7% very poor, 13% poor, 37% fair, 38% good, and 5% excellent. Sorghum headed was 80%, ahead of 72% both last year and average. Coloring was 28%, ahead of 19% last year and 17% average. Mature was 1%, equal to last year.

Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 10% poor, 41% fair, 37% good, and 11% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 93%, ahead of 83% last year and 75% average. Bolls opening was 12%, near 9% last year, and ahead of 7% average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 8% very poor, 17% poor, 34% fair, 36% good, and 5% excellent.
