The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced it will begin a controlled drawdown of Kanopolis Lake starting September 2. The project is part of scheduled water management operations to support downstream needs and ensure the long-term health of the reservoir.
Officials note that the drawdown will lower lake levels over the coming weeks, and residents and visitors are advised to monitor conditions around boat ramps, docks, and shoreline areas. The Corps emphasizes safety and encourages the public to use caution near the water during this period.
Discharges into the Smoky Hill River will not exceed 500 cfs, with the target elevation set at 1,461 feet MSL.
