In honor of the sacrifices made by our veterans and to raise awareness about the challenges they face when transitioning to civilian life, the Saline County Commission signed a proclamation endorsing Operation Green Light for Veterans during last week's Commission Meeting.
As we approach Veterans Day, we urge everyone in our community—residents and businesses alike—to participate and make this movement even more impactful.
From November 6th to 12th, Saline County buildings will glow in green as a beacon of support and acknowledgment for our veterans.
"Shining a green light is one small way we can let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported," explained Bob Vidricksen, Saline County Commissioner and Army veteran. "I encourage everyone to join us in expressing our profound gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions our veterans and their families made on the battlefield and at home."
Here's How You Can Participate:
- Light It Up Green: Switch out one light bulb in your home or business to green. Whether it's an exterior light that your community can see or an interior one that becomes a conversation starter, your participation matters.
- Get Your Green Bulbs Locally: An assortment of green lights can be found locally at Waters True Value and Ace Hardware in Salina where patrons can also earn Saline Stars.
- Share and Inspire: Once your light is shining green, capture the moment and share it on social media. Use the hashtag #OperationGreenLight, and let's create a ripple effect of appreciation and acknowledgment.
- Keep the Light On: While our focus is around the week of Veterans Day, we hope you'll consider making this a year-long commitment, reminding our veterans that their service is always remembered.
More Operation Green Light:
Championed by the National Association of Counties (NACo), Operation Green Light is a nationwide initiative designed to express gratitude towards our veterans. In the words of NACo President Denise Winfrey, "Operation Green Light symbolizes our deep appreciation for the service of our veterans. It's a visual testament to our commitment—both nationally and at the county level—to support our military heroes as they transition back into civilian life."
Let's light up green, and show our veterans they're not alone. Your participation can make all the difference.
