Injury Accident on Crawford & Gypsum Valley Rd Leaves Driver Hospitalized

Driver Strikes Boulders on Dead End Road, Suffers Non-Life Threatening Injuries

On the morning of May 29, an injury accident was reported at the intersection of E Crawford and Gypsum Valley Rd. At approximately 10:31 am, the Saline County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the incident. The incident had occurred in the early morning hours of the same day when a 2014 red Ford Focus, driven by a 31-year-old male resident of Hutchinson, KS, was traveling eastbound on Crawford.

As the driver approached the dead end of the road, he encountered several large boulders that had been placed by a homeowner. Unable to avoid the obstacles, the vehicle collided with the boulders, becoming high centered and immobile. Authorities were informed of the accident, indicating that the driver had sustained injuries.

During a conversation with the driver, law enforcement officers recognized the description of the surroundings. Acting on this information, deputies located the vehicle and confirmed the driver's injuries. Although the injuries were determined to be non-life threatening, the driver was initially taken to and later transferred to an undisclosed location for further treatment.

The driver was cited for not wearing a seatbelt. A wrecker was called to the scene and successfully removed the vehicle from the boulders with the assistance of the homeowner, who provided a farm implement.
