In Loving Memory of K-9 Officer Tyrann
The Memorial for K-9 Tyrann was held this morning at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. K-9s and their partners from many different departments paid tribute to Officer Tyrann to begin the service.
Tyrann's former handler S.A. Baker lovingly noted in his eulogy, "He will always be in our hearts. He was our confidant, our steadfast companion, and a member of our department. Together we faced each day knowing our purpose was to serve the town. Tyrann's loyalty was unmatched. He was always watching our backs, he gave his all every single day. Tyrann's legacy is one of bravery, dedication, and love. He touched the lives of so many in our department and in the community. His passing leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled."
K-9 Officer Chandler thanked the community for all the support they have shown during this time and paid a loving and emotional tribute to his partner, saying, "Today, we all say goodbye to a hero."
The Salina PD Honor Guard folded and presented flags to Tyrann's former handlers and Chief C.J. Wise closed in prayer. Outside, the last radio call and salute were ceremoniously performed, followed by the bagpipes playing Amazing Grace and Taps.
Noted in his funeral program was "Faithfully protecting Salina since 2021. K-9 Officer Tyrann's loyalty and service to the community will forever be remembered. A dedicated public servant and cherished member of the Salina Police Department."
K-9 Tyrann has had 13 apprehensions. He has tracked 12 suspects and 14 articles, searched 5 buildings, and recovered 11 firearms. He detected 7.13 lbs. of Methamphetamine, 2.85 oz. of cocaine, 12.1 g. of mushrooms, 2.488 dosage units of fentanyl, 18.1 g. of heroin, and 62.22 lbs. of marijuana during his legacy of service.
