House Fire on Dorman Drive Causes Extensive Damage

A house fire occurred on the morning of November 29 at 4756 North Dorman Drive, approximately 2.5 miles south of the Ottawa County line and near Highway 81. The property suffered significant damage from the fire, which is believed to have originated in the attic.

According to initial reports, the fire started when a wood-burning stove's chimney overheated, potentially failing and igniting materials in the attic. The fire spread within the house, causing damage to both the attic and walls. Fire crews responded promptly and cut through the roof to access and extinguish the flames.

One occupant, a young woman, was in the home at the time of the fire. She called emergency services and safely evacuated. There were no injuries reported.

The fire caused extensive damage, with losses estimated to exceed $100,000, including fire, smoke, and water damage. The stove was located in the basement and piped through the structure.

The incident was handled by Rural Fire District Seven. Investigation into the exact cause of the chimney failure continues.
