A high-speed chase through Salina on May 21 ended with the arrest of Corey Cantrell Jr., 24. The pursuit involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
Around 9:50 pm, a Saline County Sheriff's Deputy spotted Cantrell's black 2005 Ford Mustang speeding and running a red light near Schilling and Ohio. The vehicle fled east on Magnolia, reaching speeds of 123 mph in a 35 mph zone. Cantrell continued south on I-135, hitting speeds up to 127 mph.
Despite deputies losing sight of the Mustang at one point, citizens called to report the vehicle driving with no headlights and no taillights. A Salina Police Officer later located it around 10:20 pm in the area of 4th Street and Wilson. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but Cantrell refused to stop while driving the speed limit.
Cantrell eventually stopped at 500 East Crawford Street, where he was arrested without incident. The driver was turned over to Saline County Sheriff's Deputies who booked him into jail.
A THC pen was found in the vehicle, leading to charges of felony flee and elude, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, improper driving, and multiple traffic violations. The Kansas Highway Patrol briefly assisted in the pursuit.
