First Day of School and Orientation Schedules Kickstart the School Year

Salina, KS – The first day of the 2024-2025 school year for Salina Public Schools is scheduled for Friday, August 9th. This marks the beginning of the academic year for students in Grades 1-5 and Grades 6 and 9. Students in Grades 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12 will not attend school on this day. Bus transportation services will commence on August 9th, with all grades attending starting August 13th.

Elementary Schools

Elementary students in Grades 1-5 will attend a full day on August 9th, with regular school hours from 8:25 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will have conferences by appointment on August 9th and August 12th, and will start attending school on August 13th.

Middle School Orientation

Orientation for sixth-grade students at Lakewood Middle School (LMS) and South Middle School (SMS) will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. on August 9th. During this orientation, students will meet their teachers and staff, tour the school building, and learn about school culture and expectations. Lunch will be provided.

All LMS and SMS students, including those in seventh and eighth grades, will start attending school on Monday, August 12th. The regular middle school hours for the 2024-2025 school year are 7:45 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.

High School Orientation

Freshmen and new students at Central High School (CHS) and South High School (SHS) will have their orientation on Friday, August 9th, from 7:45 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Lunch will be served.

All high school students at CHS and SHS, including sophomores, juniors, and seniors, will begin attending school on Monday, August 12th. The regular high school hours for the 2024-2025 school year are from 7:45 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
