The Salina Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire early Thursday morning after receiving a call at 7:15 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from a boarded-up vacant home. The property had no active utilities at the time of the fire.
Officials report no injuries occurred during the incident, and the home was unoccupied when the fire broke out.
Fire crews initially used water from their truck while experiencing some difficulty opening a nearby hydrant. Once they were able to access the hydrant, firefighters switched to that water source. Officials confirmed there was no delay in the firefighting efforts.
The city has acknowledged that some older hydrants in the area need replacement and plans are in place to address the issue, though the work will take time to complete.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire department officials have not yet released additional details about the extent of the damage or how long crews remained on scene.
