SALINA, Kan. — Lighthouse Properties, the developer and operator of the Homewood Suites by Hilton in downtown Salina, is moving forward with plans for another hotel in the city’s core. The company confirmed it is in the early stages of proposing an 80-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott and intends to bring the project before the Salina City Commission in the coming weeks.
“We are in the beginning stages and are presenting to the commission in the next couple weeks,” a Lighthouse Properties representative told Salina311.
Location and Scope of Project
The new hotel would be located on the current parking lot at 7th and Walnut Streets, situated behind local businesses including CupKates and Doc's Barber . Plans call for the addition of both the hotel and a parking garage to serve guests and the broader downtown district.
At present, the 7th Street lot has 155 parking spaces. The proposed garage would significantly expand that capacity. “The parking garage would have a capacity of 389. If you subtract the 90 that SpringHill Suites needs, there would be a net gain of 144,” Lighthouse Properties said.
No On-Site Dining Planned
Unlike Homewood Suites, which offers YaYa’s Euro Bistro and Starbucks on-site, the proposed SpringHill Suites will not feature its own restaurant, bar, or coffee shop. “No, there will not be,” Lighthouse Properties confirmed when asked. “Our goal is for those staying to come out to Spilman Plaza and patronize CupKates, Martinelli’s, and other places to eat on Santa Fe.”
Part of Downtown Revitalization
The project follows the Homewood Suites, which opened as part of the broader Salina 20/20 mixed-use revitalization initiative. That development brought together hotel lodging, dining, retail, and public amenities in a coordinated effort to strengthen downtown Salina.
Lighthouse Properties, which develops and manages hotel projects in multiple markets, described the SpringHill Suites proposal as an extension of that vision — combining new hospitality investment with expanded infrastructure and opportunities for surrounding local businesses.
This project is on the agenda for the Salina City Commission meeting this Monday.
