Salina, KS – July 12, 2025
The Salina Family YMCA was proud to welcome Sam Evans, son of Dean Evans, during a recent visit to the facility. Dean Evans is the namesake of the YMCA’s Evans Playing Field—a landmark honoring a family deeply committed to the growth and well-being of the Y and the Salina community.
During his tour with CEO Chris Lehecka, Sam reflected on his family’s longstanding support of the YMCA, especially during its relocation to the current location in 1978. After the tour, Sam shared his admiration for the Y’s continued resilience and impact over the years.
“It’s not just recreation—it’s ministry for the kids,” said Sam Evans, noting how the Y has remained a vital presence, even through the challenges of COVID-19 and beyond.
In recognition of the Evans family’s enduring support, the Salina Family YMCA will be updating the Evans Playing Field signage, accompanied by refreshed landscaping—made possible through generous contributions from community donors.
“We’re deeply grateful to the Evans family and to all who make lasting investments in the future of our youth and community,” said Lehecka. “Their legacy continues to inspire and uplift generations.”
