Emergency Solutions Grant Accepted to Address Homelessness in Salina

The Salina City Commission unanimously approved Resolution 25-8303 accepting a conditional award of $216,348 for the 2025 Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) at their July 28 meeting.

The resolution authorizes the mayor to execute the grant agreement with the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation and allows the city manager to direct administrative actions necessary to implement the terms of the agreement.

Marissa Patton, Community Relations Specialist and one of the grant administrators, presented the item to the commission, explaining that the grant will help address homelessness and housing concerns in the city of Salina.

The grant will support four agencies in Salina that provide services including street outreach, emergency shelter, homeless prevention, and rapid rehousing.

Commissioner Longbine stated he wanted to highlight the efforts being made to address homelessness in the community.

"I think some of the things that these agencies that are receiving these funds are making a difference," Longbine said. "I don't know if anyone in Salina is noticing, but I've seen great improvements."

The 2025 ESG grant cycle will continue the city's ongoing efforts to support individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability through partnerships with local service organizations.

The commission approved the resolution with a 5-0 vote.
