Salina, Kansas – August 1, 2024
Tree and Limb Pick-Up Due to Storm Damage
In response to the tree damage caused by the storm on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the City of Salina will conduct a city-wide limb pick-up. This effort, involving staff across multiple departments, aims to clear tree debris from residential locations and ensure roads remain passable within city limits.
The thunderstorm and wind event significantly impacted trees throughout Salina, causing widespread damage. City forces will work in multiple zones simultaneously to address the debris.
Instructions for Residents:
- Tree Limb Stacking: Residents are asked to neatly stack tree limbs at the curb, with a maximum length of 10 feet, for free City pick-up starting August 1, 2024.
- Zone Division: The City will be divided into six zones to efficiently handle the storm debris. Crews will work in each zone using additional rented equipment to manage the volume.
- Exclusions: The City will not collect debris from private properties, private streets, or commercial properties. All tree limbs and vegetation debris must be placed at the curb for collection.
The City urges residents to be patient as crews work through each zone. The pick-up effort is expected to take 3-4 weeks, but the schedule may be updated and extended as needed. For updates, please check the City website at www.salina-ks.gov.
Regularly scheduled City of Salina Sanitation services will continue as normal. Please ensure no items are placed on or outside of the regular trash carts.
Additional Options for Residents:
- Special Pickups: Residents can schedule special pickups with the General Services Department, subject to standard sanitation guidelines and fees.
- Landfill Disposal: Tree limb debris can be taken to the Salina Municipal Solid Waste Landfill for free during normal business hours. Loads must be secured or covered. The landfill is located at 4292 S. Burma Road and is open Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM-4:30 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM. Contractors providing tree services are subject to fees, and mixed residential loads will be charged $46.00 per ton.
Safety Reminder:
Residents and motorists should be aware of debris in the roads and blocked intersections, practicing safe driving whenever possible. If traffic lights are not working, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
