Subvert Studio, operated by Cody Sanders, hosted its latest First Friday art show featuring the collaborative work of artists Darren Morawitz and Anna Pauscher Morawitz. The exhibit, titled Within and Around Us, is the first time the two have shown their work together.
The show highlights contrasting approaches: Darren Morawitz’s new pieces explore internal emotions, particularly anxiety, while Anna Pauscher Morawitz uses cyanotype photography and fiber art, including embroidery, to reflect on place and the surrounding environment.
Subvert Studio has become known for providing a platform for emerging artists, with Sanders often offering space to those showing work for the first time. The studio also features live music during its openings, with DJ K-odd (Christopher Riley) serving as house DJ. Photographer Chris Meyer captured images of the show’s opening night.
