Runners from across Kansas and surrounding states gathered in Salina on Saturday for the annual Crossroads Marathon, filling downtown streets and park trails with steady motion, cheering supporters, and a shared enthusiasm for distance running.
The event included a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K, offering options for runners of all experience levels. Race routes began and ended in the downtown corridor, extending south and east in residential neighborhoods and open roadway segments under coordinated traffic control. Volunteers staffed intersections, water stations, medical support points, and course guidance positions throughout the morning.
Organizers reported a strong turnout, reflecting continued growth in the region’s running community. Participants ranged from experienced marathoners seeking qualifying times to first-time runners completing personal milestone distances.
Course, Timing, and Race Day Conditions
Weather conditions remained favorable during peak race hours, with cool early-morning temperatures and light wind. The course is certified for distance accuracy, allowing marathon runners to use finishing times toward national qualifying standards, including the Boston Marathon.
Hydration stations were placed at regular intervals, and medical personnel remained available on-site. The finish line area included timing mats, recovery tables, refreshments, and shaded recovery space for runners immediately following completion.

Community and Volunteer Support
Dozens of local volunteers, civic organizations, and student groups assisted with setup, course monitoring, runner check-in, and finish-line support. Several local businesses offered morning specials to participants, spectators, and families attending the event.
Spectators lined portions of the course, particularly near downtown, offering signs, applause, and encouragement. For many runners, the presence of supporters was as meaningful as the race itself.
A Shared Culture of Running
Participants described running as both a personal and collective experience—an opportunity to test physical endurance while sharing the road with others who understand the discipline and commitment required.
For some, the day marked a long-planned goal. Others attended simply to enjoy the energy of a large outdoor athletic event.
