In Tuesday's County Commission Meeting, Rural Fire District 1 presented a crucial request for the acquisition of a new fire truck, addressing the pressing need to replace their aging 1986 Chevy unit, 107. The current vehicle requires a chassis replacement to continue functioning as a first responder unit and brush truck.
The proposed new chassis is expected to bring enhanced versatility and capabilities, bolstering District 1's ability to handle diverse emergencies within its response area. After reviewing bids from Hillsboro Ford, Midway Motors Ford, and Long McArthur Ford, the commissioners faced the challenge of limited vehicle availability meeting the project specifications.
Given these constraints, District 1 sought approval to award the project to Hillsboro Ford, which submitted the lowest bid of $58,204. The new chassis, with an estimated delivery time of 6 to 8 months, will be combined with the tank from unit 107, aiming for the unit's in-service date in the fall of 2024.
To finance the acquisition, District 1 plans to utilize funds from its special equipment fund, currently boasting a balance of $216,773.34. The motion to approve the request was approved 5-0.
