During a recent County Commission Meeting, commissioners were updated by the County Administrator on the forthcoming 2024 schedule for County Commission dates.
On January 14, 2020, the Commission adopted a Charter Resolution, exempting Saline County from the requirements of K.S.A. 19-209 and instead applying the provisions of K.S.A. 19-206.
On December 6, 2022, the Commission adopted Resolution No. 22-2374, delineating meeting dates for 2023. This schedule underwent slight modifications on June 13, 2023, with the adoption of Amendment 1 to Resolution No. 22-2374. This amendment altered the dates of study sessions and regular meetings between October 31 and November 7. Subsequently, a draft schedule for 2024 was presented as a Concept Discussion item on September 19, 2023. During this discussion, the Commission decided against proceeding with evening meeting times. Additionally, staff presented a comparative analysis of meeting schedules from other large Kansas counties.
The proposed Resolution outlining meeting dates for 2024 maintains the rhythm established for 2022 and 2023, featuring 42 regular meetings and six study sessions strategically spread across the year. A single modification has been introduced since the schedule presented in September. After careful consideration, it was determined that three canceled meetings in December could pose challenges for year-end accounts payable. Consequently, this Resolution suggests a cancellation on July 30 instead of December 31, resulting in a one-week shift for the study sessions in September and November.
The motion for approval received unanimous support, with a 5-0 vote by the commissioners.
