During the April 23, 2024, County Commission meeting, a request for action was brought forth concerning the acquisition of property for Rural Fire District #3. Led by Chief Scott Abker, the Fire District sought approval for the purchase of land in Brookville to facilitate the construction of a new fire station. Following careful consideration, the commission approved the request, marking a crucial step forward in enhancing emergency response capabilities in the area.
The request outlined the collaborative efforts between Rural Fire District #3 and the City of Brookville to secure suitable property for the construction of a new fire station. The City, in agreement with the Fire District, offered to sell 42,986 square feet of property located in the Northeast corner of Anderson & Meier. This proposal received approval from the Brookville City Council on April 8th, solidifying the real estate agreement for the sale of the property to Saline County Rural Fire District #3 for $10,750.
In terms of budget impact, the Fire District will bear the responsibility for covering the cost of the property, title insurance, escrow, and deed recording fees, with the total anticipated not to exceed $20,000. The purchase will be supported by $95,000 in ARPA grant funds specifically allocated for the construction of the new Brookville fire station, ensuring financial feasibility and prudent use of resources.
