County Commission Approves New Solar Energy System Provisions

On August 6, 2024, the Saline County Commission approved Resolution 2024-108, establishing new provisions for commercial solar energy systems. The decision followed a series of public hearings held by the Planning Commission since February 2024.

The Planning Commission, after receiving extensive public input and making several revisions, recommended the resolution on June 25. The new provisions will be added as subsection 12.16, aligning with the county’s Comprehensive Plan.

The County Commission had three alternatives: approve the resolution, make no changes to the existing regulations, or send the proposal back to the Planning Commission. They chose to adopt the resolution, with no financial impact to the county. The measure was passed unanimously by the commissioners.

Planning and Zoning contact Tim Hamilton expressed satisfaction with the public’s constructive contributions and the thorough review process leading to this important update.
