Kansas Wesleyan Competitive Cheer officially opened its season at the Bethel Thresher Invitational in North Newton.
Teams competed in three separate competitions for scoring, but final places of the event were determined by taking the best score from each of the three rounds to have a final standings.
The final overall results placed the Coyotes eighth with a best score of 65.58.
The cheer competition featured some of the top teams in the NAIA competing as evidenced by the top three finishers scoring over 95 points in the competition on a 100-point scale.
Xavier (La.) was the grand champion with a score of 97.8, Oklahoma City was second with a 97.3 and Saint Ambrose was third with a 96.68.
In the first round of the event, KWU placed 11th out of the 12 competing teams with a score of 54.85.
In the second round, KWU posted a fourth place finish with a score of 64.25.
KWU's best score of the event came in the final round where the Coyotes posted an eighth place finish with a score of 65.58.
