A memorial service honoring Carter Black was held today, January 10th, drawing family, friends, and community members together to remember his life and support one another in the wake of his death.
The service opened with a prayer led by Darren Pittenger, who spoke about light, faith, and the importance of lifting one another up during times of darkness.
Carterโs mother, Heidi Black, spoke next, sharing reflections on her son and encouraging those in attendance to speak up for others, express their feelings, and remain present for one another. She referenced a message left on her brother Jesse Adamsโ tombstone that read, โIf love could have saved you, you would have lived forever,โ underscoring the impact he had on those around him. Jesse Adams passed away in 2017.

The memorial concluded with remarks from Chelsea Eberwein, who thanked attendees for supporting Carterโs family and friends. Eberwein informed those present that crisis counselors were available following the service for anyone who wished to speak with someone privately. Attendees were also invited to write down memories or messages to be shared with the family.
Organizers emphasized the importance of community support and encouraged those struggling to seek help and continue checking in on one another.
